Osteorus participates in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The All-Russian Patient Society "Osteorus" with the assistance of specialists from the Russian Association on Osteoporosis (RAOP) regularly educates children and adults on osteoporosis prevention.
With the help of such integration, the audience is expanding and more and more citizens are increasing their knowledge of how to keep their bones healthy and protect themselves from fractures, and lead a healthy and physically active lifestyle.
On the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is marked annually on December 3, a preventive event was held in the House of Culture of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf in Yaroslavl. Every year students of the Yaroslavl State Medical University (YSMU) in the foyer of the institution before the start of the gala concert conduct preventive measures - they check eyesight, measure blood pressure, height, weight. This year the format of the public health check-up was expanded - the event was held jointly with the Patient Society of "Osteorus" and a specialist from the Russian Association on Osteoporosis.
Zulfiya Matyakubova, a rheumatologist, provided consultations to everyone, assessed the risk of osteoporotic fractures using the FRAX calculator, and informed the attendees about methods of preventing the disease using brochures. She was assisted by students of the Medical University . Any visitor could take brochures with doctors advice on preventing osteoporosis and take part in the workshop on Nordic walking. Osteorus volunteers Galina Evstifeeva and Victoria Sotskova participated in the event. The organization was assisted by Ksenia Belova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Vice-President of RAOP, Head of the Department of Public Health and Health Care of YSMU.
In such events, students gain the necessary experience of communicating with patients with speech and hearing impairment. “Osteorus” always responds to joint educational events to draw attention of the society and authorities to people who need help and support.
